Maine Sports Legends was conceived by Chris Anton and a group of individuals who were looking for a way to raise money to fund two scholarships given through the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame.

Following a dinner honoring Ted Shiro the group decided it was time to organize formally, draw up a set of by-laws and work to increase the number of scholarships awarded and sports to be represented by honoring outstanding Maine athletes and other individuals who have contributed to the Maine sports scene. Providing scholarship support for Maine high school athletes who meet prescribed standards is the primary objective of this organization.
